Reading

Your child will bring home a reading book that they have chosen with their teacher.  They need to read to an adult every night; reading the pictures, the words, making predictions about what might happen next and talking about the characters in the story.

As part of Talk for Writing, children will also text map a fiction and non-fiction text each half term.  During the lesson they will have the opportunity to learn and practise orally retelling their text.  Please ask your child to perform/share their stories/texts with you.

Children will also receive a book at the end of each half term that they can share with you.   In addition to your child reading to you every night, it will help their language development and expression if you can also share a book with them.

High frequency words that children should be able to read and spell by the end of Year 2
