Keep up to date with all that is happening in our school.
We have just issued our latest newsletter in our News Section.
Dear Parents/Carers,
It was lovely to see so many families in school for Easter Crafts this week - we had over 120 families enjoying the activities with their children. It was also great to see so many children enjoying the school discos. The children behaved impeccably whilst still having lots of fun! We were very impressed with Year 1, 2 and 3’s dance moves! Any money raised will go towards a brand new trim trail in the upper school field - this will cost us £15,000 in total and with the crafts and disco we managed to raise over £500.
Summer term dates
An important date for the next half term is Friday 27th May when we will be celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee. Children will have a street party in the school grounds in the morning and then parents and families are invited in from 1pm onwards for a good old fashioned celebration with live music, BBQ, a bar and other games! The theme will be 1950s dress and more details will follow after Easter term but keep this date free!
Your child will have another trip or visitor in the summer term and details will be sent to you as soon as possible after Easter.
INSET day
The last day of term is Wednesday 20th July and children will finish at 1pm. Thursday 21st July is an INSET day.
Easter raffle
Thank you to everyone who has purchased a raffle ticket - we raised £322 which will also go towards the trim trail.
A few of the winners from the Easter raffle were: Jack Horrell, Lily Wiggins, Millie Chase, Daniel Gloria and many more with Jaxon in Year 6 winning the HUGE egg!! Thanks to everyone who supported the school by buying tickets and our staff for donating the eggs.
Have an amazing Easter holiday and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday 25th April.
Dear Parents/Carers, In response to recent parental feedback we have put together a calendar of ‘extra’ events that will be taking place in the Spring term. For days such as ‘number day’ and ‘world book day’ we have purposefully chosen themes that will be of minimal cost to families. For example: dressing as something mathematical could be a football kit or an old t-shirt with a mathematical equation or shapes drawn on it.
Please see the latest newsletter for dates.
Dear Parents/Carers,
As we approach half term, the weather has dropped considerably. Please can the children make sure they are wearing their school jumpers on PE days and have a coat with them if they would like to wear it during brain break and lunchtimes. We have been very impressed with the children this half term and the visitors that we have had to the school have reiterated this. Visitors have commented on how happy the children seem, how polite they are and how hard they are learning in a wide range of subjects - we particularly enjoyed watching the children in Mr Willis' class learning how to play the guitar!
Staying safe in the community
We have had several complaints recently regarding parents smoking outside the school gates. Whilst this is clearly not on school property, the complaints have arisen because a child’s coat has been burnt by the end of a cigarette and some parents are concerned that their children are having to walk through clouds of smoke. Please can we ask you to be considerate of those around you and perhaps wait until you are away from the school gates before smoking.
There have also been some concerns about the amount of litter being dropped around the school gates. Again, please be considerate and put your rubbish in the bin.
Speaking to the class teacher
Please can we ask that if you need to speak to your child’s class teacher that you either wait until the end of the day or phone and ask for an appointment. At the beginning of the day it is essential that teachers can get the children into class as soon as possible so that their daily morning reading session can start.
Well done!
A huge well done to former student Jack Carter, who booked his spot in next weekend's National Junior Championships under-60kg finals in Nottingham with a last-eight victory on Saturday. Jack has worked hard, training relentlessly and we wish him all the best in the final!
Covid cases
When we are alerted about a case of Covid, we will send a letter if your child is in that class. This means that you will be able to look out for symptoms in your child and decide on who your child mixes with outside of school. If you do not receive a letter, this will be because the case is NOT in your child’s class.
Trips and visitors
It is great to be able to take children on trips again and be able to have visitors in. Any trips will be planned following current guidance to ensure the safety of your child. This is the same for any visitors to the school. Trips and visits planned for the remainder of the term are:

Reading
Reading sheds are now stocked and ready to use across the school. The children have access to this shed and they can take books to read during brain break and lunchtimes.
There are also these sheds
that are placed outside various entrances to year groups. Please feel free to take a book from these to read with your child/children whilst you are waiting to drop off/collect. The children are also free to take these books home, read them with you and then bring back and swap for another one. It would be lovely to see pictures of your children enjoying these books at home/ or before school - these can be sent in via the wellbeing email for the attention of Mrs Grant.

COVID-19 update
Eventually we expect to get back to a situation more like that in 2019, but please bear with us. We very much look forward to welcoming everyone back to the new school year and we will provide you with the necessary updates as and when we have them.
Thank you once again for all your support and understanding during these challenging times.
I would like to thank you for all your help and support in what has been a challenging but productive year. The children have continued to amaze me with their resilience, determination and enthusiasm for learning - whether that has been virtual or in school. I would also like to thank all the staff that have worked tirelessly to keep your children safe; they had to adapt to a new way of teaching overnight and rose to this challenge admirably.
From September, as long as the new lifting of restrictions remains in place, we plan to implement the following timings to the start and end of the day.

Have a lovely summer holiday and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday 6th September.
Mrs Read, Mrs Grant and I would like to thank you for your continued support during this uncertain time. We are particularly grateful to all the parents who are taking social distancing seriously on the gates; wearing masks in congested areas, keeping to drop off and pick up times and staying an appropriate distance from other parents.  On the other hand, we have unfortunately had some complaints - from local residents and other parents - regarding smoking and use poor language whilst waiting outside. Please be considerate to those around you at all times.  Â
Â
We hope that you managed to access the google meets with your child’s class teacher this week. It is really important for you to have the opportunity to keep track of both your child’s academic and personal progress. Teachers found them incredibly helpful and we hope you did too. If you have any questions then please either phone the school and ask for an appropriate time to speak to your teacher or you can contact the wellbeing team or SLT through the well being email (www.wellbeing@flpa-tkat.org ) and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Â
Â
If you have ordered a new PE Tshirt these should be with you very soon. If you still need to order one it is not too late! Just log on to the gateway, place your order and we will add you to the list.
Â
As the weather is getting colder, please can you ensure that your child comes into school with a school jumper and a warm coat. As part of our risk assessment we have to ensure the school is well ventilated and we do not want the children to become cold. Additionally, can you ensure that your child has suitable footwear - if they are wearing trainers then these need to be plain black with no visible logos.  Â
Â
In light of the uncertain times we are living in, we are being proactive and ensuring all staff are trained in google classroom.  In the next couple of weeks, teachers will be setting fun homework activities on google classroom for your child to access at home. This is an opportunity for them to become familiar with the system in the event that they might need it for remote learning.  As a parent you can download the google classroom app which will allow you to keep track of what your child is learning.  If you haven’t already done so, remember to complete the google form that we sent out this week regarding technology that you have access to at home.
Transition Days
Over the next couple of weeks you should receive a home visit from your child’s current teacher. This will be an opportunity for your child to say goodbye and also to receive their school report alongside of an introductory letter from their new teacher.  It will also include a stamped addressed envelope for your child to complete a sheet and then return it to school so that they have the chance to tell their new teacher something about themselves.     We are aware that some children, particularly those who have not had the opportunity to be in school this term, may be anxious about returning in September.Â
In order to ease any worries, we will be having 2 transition days. (see dates above) There will be slots available for you to sign your child up to over the Thursday whole day and Friday morning. These slots will be 9-11.30 and 12.30-3 on Thursday and 9-11.30 on Friday. There will only be 10 children in each group so that each child has some small group time with their new teacher and TA in order to get to know them better.   Every child will be expected to sign up for one slot and to be in school on the Friday afternoon where they will take part in some fun activities as a whole class. Â
The Autumn term officially starts on Monday 7th September, where the school will run according to the most recent government guidance. Â
The children have been working hard to create a special memorial to celebrate 100 years since World War 1. They have been so reflective and compassionate when learning about the fallen heroes and the sculpture they have designed is going to look great.
Watch the front lawn to see it appear!
