Cultural Capital

We recognise that being in a disadvantaged area; it is likely that children at Front Lawn Primary Academy may not regularly benefit from culture rich opportunities.  Therefore, we endeavour to provide these for our pupils throughout each academic year.

At Christmas time, the children in Year R, Year 1 and Year 2 visit the Kings Theatre to see the Pantomime.

The children in Year 3 and 4 visit the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.  This time they will be seeing the musical ‘Nativity’.

Year 5 and 6 children get to experience a Shakespeare Play at the Globe Theatre.

We have a Dance coach who comes to coach our children in dance during University Afternoons.  The children are exposed to different genres of dance throughout the year.

Each year group go on a minimum of 1 trip per term.  These have previously included a trip to Hampton Court Palace, a visit to the Science Museum in London, going to a Planetarium, visits to the zoo and a farm to name but a few.

If the children save enough money by earning Race points for their team work and collaborative behaviour, they can choose a trip.  The trips some Year Groups have chosen include- a trip to a Trampoline Park, a Soft Play Centre, the beach and cinema

Children can earn behaviour bands at Front Lawn.  Each band is linked with a trip every term.  The trips have included picnics on the beach, a visit to a Winter Wonderland, a visit to see Santa Claus, trips to play parks, sand parks, pond dipping and orienteering

We utilize our local area to ensure the children have a knowledge of their local area and the opportunities within it.  We regularly spend time at Staunton Country Park, visit the Library, spend time with the residents of a local care home and visit the church for events such as Harvest Festival and Christmas

We welcome Authors in to our school each year.  The children enjoy hearing about the possibilities that being an Author could bring as well as finding out about what inspires the Authors to their stories.
