Dear Parents/Carers, It seems impossible that we are already in October and heading towards half term. We’ve had a great start to the year with Year 4 learning in a tepee, a visit from the amazing author Ali Sparkes and the return of our favourite; ‘The Roving Bookshop.’ Thank you to everyone who found the money to buy their child a book; the money spent earns us money to invest in the library, the book vending machine or books for your child’s class ‘dazzle’ library. We would also like to thank the parents/carers who have completed their parent questionnaire - we do read each one and appreciate you giving your time to do so. If you haven’t already completed one, then it is not too late! As a result of looking at these questionnaires, we wanted to provide you with a clear explanation of ‘personal development’ and what this looks like at Front Lawn. The DFE (Department for Education) states that ‘Personal development should equip children with a sound understanding of risk and the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions.’ At Front Lawn we have a bespoke Personal, Social, Health and Economic curriculum (PSHE) that gives children the opportunity to learn about: - safety; through discussing what online safety looks like as well as how they can keep themselves and others physically safe (please see NSPCC poster at the end of the newsletter for how to help keep children safe online whilst at home) -how to look after their own mental health and wellbeing - how to manage different feelings and emotions - how to manage money. Children have the chance to take part in circle time, use TED if they have anything they would like to discuss, talk to Safeguarding Champions and ask for a mindful moment if necessary. We also provide a free breakfast club. The PSHE curriculum also includes Relationships Education which is compulsory for Primary School. If you would like to know more about your child’s PSHE, please ask your child’s teacher at the upcoming parent’s evening.
Other business
A reminder please that on PE days, children CAN attend in their PE kit but they MUST wear a school jumper and not a hoodie. If children bring mobile phones into school, they must be handed into the office.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to the new term, we hope you have enjoyed the sunshine over the summer holidays and cannot wait to see you all!
Your children will have PE on the following days. For the Autumn term the children can come to school in their PE kit on their PE days. We expect children to come into school wearing their house colour PE t-shirt, black shorts, black tracksuit bottoms or black leggings and a school jumper, if it is cold. Children are not allowed to wear their own hoodies - if your child attends school wearing a hoodie then parents will be phoned and asked to bring up a school jumper or a jumper will be provided from lost property.
We appreciate how expensive it can be to replace school PE t-shirts so we will be sending out a google form for you to order a new one, which we will pay for.
PE days are as follows:
YR - PE to start in Spring term
Y1 - Friday
Y2 - Tuesday
Y3 - Monday and Wednesday
Y4 - Tuesday
Y5 - Tuesday and Wednesday
Y6 - Chestnut and Magnolia - Thursday
- Sycamore and Jasmine - Friday
We are also lucky enough that a charity has donated lots of different sized brand new or nearly new shoes. If you are interested in having a pair for your child then please email the wellbeing email and register your interest letting them know what size you need. wellbeing@flpa-tkat.org There is also freshly washed lost property (of various sizes) available if you need or would like a school jumper/cardigan for your child. The lost property will be available to look at in the upper school hall after school on Monday 5th September.

Dear Parents/Carers,
I can’t believe that I am writing the last newsletter of this academic year. Mrs Read, Mrs Grant and I would like to thank you for all your support over what has been a difficult but fulfilling and rewarding year. The children never cease to amaze us; they have worked so hard this year and their ability to retain and recall knowledge from a range of subjects across the curriculum is remarkable. We have really enjoyed being able to have families back onsite for different events and taking the children on trips. Thank you for your support and in attending events such as book fairs and contributing towards the costs of the many visits your child has been able to attend.
We are very pleased to be welcoming three new members of staff next year: Miss Bartlett, Ms Allen and Miss Martin. However, this does mean that we are very sad to say goodbye to Miss Humphreys and Miss Boister. Miss Humphreys has been with us for 8 years and has worked hard to attain her Qualified Teaching Status this year. This means that she is leaving us to take up a post as a Year R teacher at Barncroft. We would like to thank her for all her hard work and dedication to the school. Miss Boister is leaving us to become a Deputy Head at a school in Portsmouth. Miss Boister has been at Front Lawn for 10 years and we are very grateful for all of her hard work, dedication and loyalty. We wish her all the best and know that she will do an amazing job.
We also say goodbye to Year 6. The children performed a heart wrenching but fantastic performance yesterday - I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house! Year 6 have been a mature, hard working group of children who have kept us entertained on a daily basis. We will miss them greatly but know they will go on to achieve amazing things in their future.
Other business
The children who have achieved their gold band are due to go on their trip on Monday. Please can you send your child into school with suncream and a hat.
Year 6’s rescheduled Sports Day is due to take place on Tuesday morning. If parents would like to come then please arrive at the main car park gate for 8.45am. In the afternoon, Year 6 will have their leaver’s BBQ and the children will be able to bring in shirts/Tshirts to get signed on Wednesday.
From September, there is a slight change to our attendance policy. We will no longer be able to authorise holidays unless circumstances are exceptional. However, if you choose to take a holiday in term time, we would still ask you to notify us of this by filling in an absence form.
The last day of term is Wednesday 20th July. The children will finish at 1pm and will need to be collected from their usual exits.
Have a lovely summer holiday and enjoy the sunshine whilst it lasts!
Dear Parents/Carers,
It was lovely to see so many families in school for Easter Crafts this week - we had over 120 families enjoying the activities with their children. It was also great to see so many children enjoying the school discos. The children behaved impeccably whilst still having lots of fun! We were very impressed with Year 1, 2 and 3’s dance moves! Any money raised will go towards a brand new trim trail in the upper school field - this will cost us £15,000 in total and with the crafts and disco we managed to raise over £500.
Summer term dates
An important date for the next half term is Friday 27th May when we will be celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee. Children will have a street party in the school grounds in the morning and then parents and families are invited in from 1pm onwards for a good old fashioned celebration with live music, BBQ, a bar and other games! The theme will be 1950s dress and more details will follow after Easter term but keep this date free!
Your child will have another trip or visitor in the summer term and details will be sent to you as soon as possible after Easter.
INSET day
The last day of term is Wednesday 20th July and children will finish at 1pm. Thursday 21st July is an INSET day.
Easter raffle
Thank you to everyone who has purchased a raffle ticket - we raised £322 which will also go towards the trim trail.
A few of the winners from the Easter raffle were: Jack Horrell, Lily Wiggins, Millie Chase, Daniel Gloria and many more with Jaxon in Year 6 winning the HUGE egg!! Thanks to everyone who supported the school by buying tickets and our staff for donating the eggs.
Have an amazing Easter holiday and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday 25th April.
